GYM MEMEMBERSHIPS
1. If you have Medicare Advantage as your Medicare healthcare choice, you may be able to get a free membership to your local gym or YMCA through a program called SILVER SNEAKERS. And, you can be a member of more than one facility. Click the image or link below for more information.
2. Always check with your local YMCAs and Health Clubs for specific Senior Discounts. Usually they will provide a % off of a regular membership.
3. Also, ask about family programs or plans. Again, there may be a lower amount if you join as a family.
CAR INSURANCE DISCOUNTS
When it comes to car insurance discounts, the number of discounts that are available to people over the age of 50 differ from company to company. You may not even be aware of the discounts you could be getting. As a more mature driver, there are plenty of auto insurance discounts for which you may qualify. Below are a few of the discounts for which you should inquire about.
One of the best ways to gain an auto insurance discount is to join a group such as AARP or AAA. These groups give you access to group discounts which typically lower auto insurance prices 5-10% depending on the state you live in and your insurance company.
Another great way to lower the cost of your auto insurance is to take a senior driving course. These courses are aimed at refreshing your existing skills, updating your driving knowledge, and making sure you are a safer driver. These senior driving programs are typically short and relatively inexpensive. Some states even mandate that an auto insurance company must lower your premium if you’ve taken one of these classes, so they are a great place to start.
Be sure to contact your insurance company directly about any discounts available. They will check your driving record, miles you drive each year, and your specific age. Also, talk to them about the age of your car and how much you are actually driving. Once you are retired, your driving habits change, and that will be considered in the cost of your premium, BUT it's up to you to notify your insurance company with your retirement date.
Another question to ask you insurer is if they provide a loyalty discount program for long-time customers. They certainly do not want to lose you as a customer, and if you have been with them forever, they may reward you for that loyalty.
Check your coverage on the car you are driving. If you are driving an older car, and you no longer drive as much, be sure to talk to your agent about the coverage you do have. If the car is paid for, and you no longer drive as much as you used to, check to see if you really need full coverage. All of these factors are important when looking at reducing your annual car insurance premiums. Don't be afraid to ask for what you deserve.
COMMUNICATION & INTERNET SERVICE SENIOR DISCOUNTS
Many internet service providers recognize that seniors are one of the fastest growing segments in new internet use. And, they are on a fixed budget. That is why many will offer discounts on plans.
AT&T: Plans are available for seniors at reduced costs.
Verizon: Verizon offers senior plans and discounts. The Verizon Nationwide 65 Plus Plan offers a discounted rate for seniors – this rate can change by area as well as over time.
Comcast: Ask about availability of discounts. They change by location.
T-Mobile: Seniors over 55 can sign up for unlimited talk, text, and LTE data for two lines for a set price of $60 per month.
Sprint: Has a line of cell phones specially marketed to seniors that include easy to use, accessible features, such as TTY/TDD support, LED alerts, and 911 shortcut keys. However, the company doesn't offer a senior discount on cell phone plans.
